Synchronise podcast episodes with the Nextcloud
I’m a big fan of podcasts and listen to them regularly. My favourite is the app AntennaPod on my smartphone, which is not only free and open source, but also works very well.
But when I’m working on my computer, I sometimes listen to episodes in my browser. The problem was that I couldn’t remember which episodes I had already listened to or where I had left off. I had no way of synchronising my progress.
However, as data protection is very important to me, I didn’t want to hire an external service provider to synchronise my data. Instead, I did some research today and found a solution that met my needs.
AntennaPod supports synchronisation with the GPodder server, and since I use Nextcloud, I installed the GPodder Sync App. This app synchronises my podcasts, episodes and their status with my Nextcloud. I then looked for a way to play these synchronised podcasts directly in Nextcloud and came across RePod.
The solution works absolutely reliably: I can continue listening to episodes that I have stopped on my smartphone in the browser and vice versa. I can also mark episodes as read and see these changes on all devices. I can also download episodes if I want to.
